Wonderpants Shorties

I decided that I wanted to make William some training pants with elastic around the legs and no plastic, which meant I needed to make him some wool shorties to go over the top! I had this camo yarn left over from buying a new skein for the 2nd leg of the Little Fire Longies I tested. I used the Wonderpants pattern which has short rows in the rear. I've never done short rows, but the pattern has great pictures and it wasn't hard to figure out. These shorties went really fast!

I like how the crotch shaping works so you have more stitches to work with so it doesn't pull funny.

I added Owl Pockets which I had tested for Wonderpants.

(I'd never done cables before, either!)

My Wool Yarn Stash

I think I have enough wool yarn! Since I have all the wool longies/shorties from William, I don't really need to knit any more for Andrew. Although I will need to knit some shorts for next summer since William was only in wool for 1 summer (I have him in training pants with plastic attached since the cloth only ones don't have elastic at the legs which doesn't work well for the poopies!) I also would like to make at least 1 more sleep sack (so I can alternate)

Here is the stash!

This is all Paton's Classic Merino (most bought on clearance) except for the bottom row, which is 100Purewool.

First 2 are "Paprika",

Last 3 are "Camel"

The yellow was used for waistbands on the Yellow Jacket pants I made for the 3 kids, so is mostly full. The next 2 are small leftover bits from making the pants. The next hasn't even been wound into a ball! The last is "Gentleman" and never used!

The colors showed up weird for these, since the first 3 are hunter green, then a royal purple, last is "Denim Marl" (also all new)

These are my partial skeins.

1st was used for ½ of 1 leg of Little Fire longies, 2nd was the waistband for the same pair,

3rd was just the cuffs on Tie Dye longies,

4th is pretty used as I made shorties with it,

5th is mostly full (I think I made a pair of breastpads)

After I took the picture of my stash, I remembered about these!

On the left are Lion Wool from Wal*Mart I got on clearance, the ones in plastic bags I got for $1 each, planning for Patriotic longies.

Even after making some newborn shorts for right away, some more sleep sacks, and shorts for next year, I think I will have a lot of yarn left! I guess I could make something for reenacting, but we haven't done a lot of that lately! I think I need a brainstorm!

My Wool Longies/Shorties Collection

I decided to do an "inventory" of what I have in wool pants/shorts/soakers. Since we're having another boy, all the ones that I had for William would work for Andrew also. Other than William was born in late Fall and Andrew will be born in late Summer.

These are both new for Andrew. The first is a Pink Green Wool Tie Wrap (minus the ties) so it has a adjustable waist.

Sweater Longies Number 3

I have had a couple of sweaters that I got at Goodwill that I'd never used and I decided to go ahead and make a pair of longies out of the arms of them and then save the body parts for the new baby.

I added a gussett to add width in the crotch.

Tie-Dye Yarn Longies

I have sidetracked myself from my Tie-Dye Yarn longies so many times, I decided I should update you on where I started!

I used left over dye from tie-dying t-shirts to dye some wool yarn.

The yarn was balled up and ready to knit on August 20, 2008

Here was my progress on the longies on Sept 5, 2009.

And finally finished on January 10, 2009! I knew I was going to run out of my tie-dyed yarn, so I bought a coordinating color (its actually a bright turquoise color) to make wide cuffs to make them long enough.

Pink Green Wool Tie Wrap

I beta tested a knit wool tie wrap for PinkGreen . I made a large, but I think I should have made a medium instead! It is simple to work and easy to get a nice tight fit.




It is 19.5" long and 20" wide.

















Since this is the type of shot I get when I try to take standing up shots, I had to lay Will down!

Little Fire Longies

I finished the Little Fire Longies that I was beta testing. They worked up nice, but I had to make the gusset narrower than the pattern called for in order to get the right number of stitches for each leg. I made them with Patons Classic Merino.

I Ran Out of Yarn!

I got all of one leg and 5 rows of the second leg done and I ran out of yarn! I would have had enough if I was doing shorties! I just picked up another skein of camo yarn today, so hopefully these will be done soon!

Butt Sweaters

I had another sweater from Goodwill that I wanted to use for soakers and longies for William. This one is 100% lambswool and SO soft. It wasn't shrunken, so it feels thin.
The weather was turning colder and one of his few soakers was dirty, so I really needed to get these done!

I added to the sides as I didn't think it would be wide enough

I used the neckband ribbing for the top of this one!

I was going to add to the sides, too, but couldn't figure out how to with the little bits i had left! It's a little tighter, but still fits!

Not bad, not bad at all!

The soakers/longies work great even with them being thinner.
