My 8th Polymer Clay Doll
One of the Facebook groups that I belong to hosted a "Whimsical Halloween" sculpting contest. The challenge was to sculpt a toddler and sew it a Halloween costume. I thought it sounded like fun, so I entered. I didn't win anything even though I think all of the dolls in the category were better than one of the ones that placed! Anyway.... I am happy with how my doll turned out and she is by far my best sculpt yet. I decided to make her a Winnie the Pooh costume, which meant she *needed* a stuffed Piglet. So I designed and crocheted a stuffed Piglet using my tatting thread and a 1.25mm crochet hook.

Book Review: "Palace of Darkness" by Tracy L. Higley
I was given an eBook version of "Palace of Darkness" written by Tracy L. Higley through Booklook bloggers in order for me to review it.
Cassia has stayed with Aretas for six years despite his violent tendencies because she is desperate for love. When he is killed after a failed scam, she and their son Alexander travel to Petra, Aretas' birthplace, searching for family and a place to belong. When she finds out the truth about Aretas' family, she is thrown into a royal conspiracy. She finds help from the followers of The Way and wonders why they are willing to help her when she has nothing to give. Through their example, she learns to rely on the One True God and His strength rather than doing it all on her own.
Julian feels that he needs to take a stand to stop the persecution of the Church in Rome, but when all he does is make life more difficult, he flees to Petra to start over and blend into the background. God has other plans for him, however, and he must learn to serve in order to lead the Church in Petra.
I have previously read two other books by Tracy L. Higley and enjoyed this one the most. (I liked the others, as well). I was drawn into the story and the characters' lives. I liked getting a glimpse into what life was like for the early church meeting in people's homes and sharing letters from Paul and other church leaders. It was almost as if I was sitting there on the bench listening to them talk. It was nice to see the romance grow and not just have them suddenly be in love.
"Palace of Darkness" was previously released as "Petra: City in Stone" . I realized about 7/8 of the way through the book that I had "met" Julian's parents in "City on Fire: A Novel of Pompeii". I don't think it was necessary to have read it first, though, since they are mentioned mostly in passing.
I would recommend the book to those who like early Church history romances.

Church Building Project: Building Dedication
Sunday we had a dedication service for the new Fellowship Hall. There are a few more little things that need to be finished, but for the most part, it is finished and praise God, without incurring debt or having to get a loan!

Book Review: "A September Bride" by Kathryn Springer
I received the latest A Year of Weddings Novella, "A September Bride" written by Kathryn Springer from Booklook Bloggers in order for me to review it.
Annie Price has just moved to Red Leaf to become the manager of the Second Story bookstore and realized that she has finally found a home where people welcome her and accept her. Officer Jesse Kent has been away for 3 weeks for training. When he returns, the way things have always been aren't the same. He has a hard time trusting people because of someone who took advantage of them when he was younger, so he is suspicious of Annie especially when she seems to be the cause for his mother breaking out of her routine life. When Jesse and Annie are paired up for a mock wedding, will they find themselves wanting the real thing?
I liked "A September Bride" and felt like the characters were real and believable. I liked Annie's quirkiness and Jesse's serious side (until you got to know him)The story didn't feel rushed or lacking even though it was a novella. I am again disappointed that we didn't get to see the wedding so she isn't really a September bride yet. Even though the novellas all end with a "happily ever after" not all of them have a wedding and I think that they should always end with the actual wedding!
