My Little Picasso

For Christmas, we gave Emily a painting set.  She wanted to paint with it right away, but we had our extended family Christmas party to go to.   She brought it out today and painted a picture for her siblings.

It even came with this cute little paint palette made for lefties!

The finished piece

Emily has always been my child who was most interested in creating masterpieces.  This picture is of Emily the day before her 2nd birthday.  I wrote an identically titled blog post about it here.

Jr. Picasso Paint Bar Session

At the fair, we won a couple gift certificates to attend the local community center's "Jr. Picasso" painting class.  It was a 1 ½ hour class and they provided everything we needed.  Emily and I went together and had some fun.  Neither of us were completely satisfied with how our paintings turned out, but they weren't bad considering that it was the first time for either of us painting other than watercolors.
This is the picture they showed online of what we were going to paint

An Orange Ladder

We got the ladder for the boys' bunk beds painted orange!  I decided to paint the light switch cover, too, since most of the green paint was off.

Heartbreak

I just found out today that the youth pastor at our church and his wife just lost another baby.  This is the third one in a little over a year. (they were 20 weeks, 14 weeks, and 14 weeks)  I can't begin to imagine the pain that they are feeling right now.  I haven't personally gone through this sort of thing.  I know that my mother-in-law lost numerous babies before having one that lived for a half hour.  They then adopted my brother-in-law and then got pregnant with my husband.  God is good in all situations and we can't always see why.  Please pray for the Wells that they will feel God's peace and comfort through this difficult time.

Vacation Bible School Prep.

VBS is this week at church. It is exciting this year that we have the sole occupancy of the building so the decorating has been in full swing all last week! (Last year we couldn't really do anything until after the other group had used the building on Saturday)

Dan & I came in on Wednesday to help out

Here is a start to the hallway / entry decorations

And the start to the auditorium decorations

Yesterday at church, they did a little intro to the theme of VBS (SeaQuest: Diving for God's Treasure)

Itsy Bitsy Spider

Here are a couple pictures of the"Itsy Bitsy Spider" in the church nursery.
The web didn't turn out how I had seen it in my head. I guess I should have drawn it out on paper first!

It's God's Garden

One of the things we did at church was to repaint the nursery.

The first step was to put primer over the existing decor.

These don't look quite as bad in these pictures as they did in person. The lines were very thick and messy. Especially the Tigger that is cut off on the right side of this picture.

The bottom of the walls was covered in a marble sheeting of some sort. We had to use special primer that would cover shiny surfaces. This picture also shows the original location of a cabinet they moved to the other side of the room.

Day 2: Paint first coat

Day 3: Paint 2nd coat of green and touch up spots on blue

Step 2 of Day 3: Paint accent flowers.

We got some wood flowers and bugs to use on the walls and it saved us having to paint them all!

"Finished"

I forgot to move the reading corner curtain to take a picture of the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" we painted in the corner.

We still need to hang a little bulletin board and add a few more painted bugs.
