I am a person who deals with worrying. Usually, when anything deals with anxiety and worry, the solution is--God says not to worry, so don't. That is only helpful to a point. I think that some people have a harder time with worry than others and need more than just "don't worry". Sort of like some people seem to be able to eat whatever they want and never gain weight and others are constantly battling the extra pounds. So, when I had the opportunity to review "Living Without Worry" by Timothy Lane, I jumped on the chance.
There are 11 chapters in this book: Why Not Worry?, What is Worry?, Worry and your Past (parts 1 & 2), Worry and your Future, Worry and your Present, How to Begin to Change, Real Truths that Counter your Worry, How to Cast All you Anxiety on Him, What Would Jesus Say?, and Conclusion.
The beginning chapters lay the ground work for what he is going to be talking about as far as worry is concerned. The next section was irrelevant to me as I am already a Christian and didn't suffer a trauma or commit a horrible act that I'm having to deal with.
There were some parts of the book that I found more helpful. He states that "the goal is not to worry less, but to rejoice more" and that "worry can reveal what you are living for." I already pray when I am anxious, but I did come away from the book with the better understanding of why I am worried about certain things more than others. I am hopeful that having a better understanding of the underlying issue will help me alleviate the anxiety.
