Author Name: Cecil Taylor

Release Date: January 6, 2024

The innate human longing for comfort is undeniable. However, Jesus challenges us to step

beyond the boundaries of our comfort zones and venture into the profound realm of faith, aptly

described as trust zones by Cecil Taylor. These are the spaces where we dare to take risks in

service of Christ's Kingdom. In this enlightening exploration of the Bible, Cecil Taylor delves

into 12 narratives of Jesus encouraging individuals to forsake their comfort zones in favor of

trust zones. Through insightful interpretation, he unveils the valuable lessons these stories impart

for contemporary followers of Jesus.

Book Excerpt

Jesus realized that not only did the young man have strong religious principles and had potential to be

a better follower, but he also saw the man’s weak spot – his comfort zone. It was his wealth.

Jesus followed this encounter by discussing how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven,

uttering his famous line about how it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the

rich to enter the kingdom.

As we look at the rich young ruler and other stories such as the rich fool and his barns, it’s easy to

chalk up their mistakes to greed. But I think there is a deeper meaning than simple greed.

Our Quest for Certainty

What does wealth bring you? Our answers might be possessions, social standing, even options – we

love having options. But the other thing wealth seems to bring you is certainty.

My family and I have oscillated between having money and not having money. I grew up

wearing my taller best friend’s hand-me-downs in high school. I’ve had tens of thousands in

credit card debt pile up because I was out of work for more than a year.
