How far will a mother go to find out what happened to her child?

My Thoughts
"The Pink Bonnet" is the second book in the "True Crimes" series. The books are all based on actual crimes, but do not need to be read in any particular order as they do not go together. The book was well written and it had a good pace. The story followed both Cecile Dowd and Percy Vance as well as giving us the glimpse into the lives of two of the "adopted" children. It was very frustrating knowing that no matter what they did, they were going to be moving against a brick wall. The influence and power that Georgia Tann had over the city of Memphis was appalling and disheartening. It tore my heart out knowing so many families had their lives wrecked by this cruel monster who was only out for her own benefit and profit.

The True Crime Behind the Story
Georgia Tann was a woman who ran an adoption agency in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1924 until 1950. It is estimated that, in that time, she kidnapped over five thousand children and sold them to the highest bidder. She even advertised the children in the newspaper, especially around the holidays. Some of the nation’s biggest celebrities adopted through Miss Tann, including Joan Crawford, Dick Powell, and June Allyson. I found this book very hard to put down! In fact, I stayed up late one night reading, which I never do anymore.
