Another Trip to the ER

On Wednesday, August 19, after church, we went to see my sister Rachel's new house and the progress they had made on getting it cleaned up. We hadn't been there long, before Emily came running through the corner of the living room and tripped on the change in elevation from one room to the other (from removing the carpet). She hit her face on the step and I was afraid she had hit her eye. It was actually on her cheek bone, but it was gushing blood. We left Sarah and William there and took Emily and Andrew (who had just started eating when this happened) to the ER. We got there at 8:30 pm and left at 11:00! She got 5 stitches (1 inside and 4 outside). The doctor said it was through all the layers of skin and involved the first layer of muscle, too.

After the stitches came out.

Wow, I'm *so* glad she didn't hit her eye, Becky! She looks like she handled it all really, really well. That's quite a shiner she's got left, too!

If there can be a blessing in all of that, there is one. Mom/Grandma had been helping to remove carpet staples from the step. In the process a piece of the facing came up, along with a nail. The piece of wood had been placed, nail side up, on the step only inches from where Emily hit it. If she had been a few inches to the right, she would have gotten the nail. With the force she hit the step, I'm sure the nail would have damaged her cheekbone. I praise God it wasn't as bad as it *could* have been. Still, we are very sorry it happened at all.

Yesterday, I found a staple in the step that I think was what she must have hit. You'll have to visit again, now that the floor is safer!

Love you all,

Rachel

oh poor baby!!
Please get some vitamin E tablets and put on her cut. It will heal it faster and make the scar show up much less. Don't want an ugly scar on that pretty face!

Oh, yeah, the comment about Vitamin E reminded me... on my foot surgery scar, I used Mederma. (it's a little pricey, but well worth it) My podiatrist recommended that I try it. The scar has healed up nicely... I'm not sure what it would have looked like otherwise, but I do think it helped. :)
