Barbie Cake Tutorial

Emily had seen a Barbie cake at the store and really liked it, so I decided to make one for her birthday.

Gather supplies

Cake made, bowl greased and floured

But the cake mix only filled the bowl half way!

So I made another one

But I didn't think about how you need to leave space for expansion (I blame it on me being sick!)

Wrap doll's legs in plastic wrap

The cake wasn't tall enough, so I added some of the cake that had spilled over

But the piece split when I added the doll (nothing was going right that day!) so I cut more pieces and covered it all with frosting!

All done (finally!)

Emi's reaction made all the work worthwhile!

Seems like I did one of these cakes for Marissa a number of years ago, though I used a shorter doll (not a Barbie), so I didn't have the cake height issues.

Ugh, don't 'ya hate it when everything goes wrong? It's always worse, too, when you're trying to make things just right for one of your kids' birthdays, too!

Emily looks *SO* excited about her cake. Mission successful! :)

What a great job you did on the Barbie cake!

Emily's face shows that all you went through was certainly worth it. It's something she will remember for a very long time to come.

My grown children remark about the special cakes I made for them at different times in their life. (Birthdays, football field with players and gold posts when our son's team won the grade school championship, holidays and such.) It was a fun time for all!

You did a great job on the cake, it looks wonderful! Emily certainly thought so. Cute picture of her - glad you caught her expression when seeing the cake. That expression says it was all worth it!

I haven't used the doll pick I bought to use for Anna since her 2nd birthday. I may have to do that again this year for her 5th. I know she loved her princess cake. :)
