Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Fraser by Susan May Warren, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Fraser

Title: Fraser

Series: The Minnesota Marshalls #1

Author: Susan May Warren

Publisher: SDG Publishing

Release Date: February 14, 2023

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Fraser Marshall is pretty sure his career as a Spec Ops fighter is over. Yes, he’s gone into private security, working for Jones, Inc, but his last gig ended with him wounded and taken captive. And those wounds just won’t heal. The last thing he wants to do is stick around his family’s winery pressing grapes. But what choices does he have?

The answer comes via a panicked phone call from his kid brother, Creed.

Help, Fraser. I’m in over my head…

Yeah he is, because he’s run away with a princess, with her bodyguard hot on the trail. And said bodyguard, Pippa Butler is going to hunt them down, no matter the cost.

Even if she has to join forces with a bossy, arrogant former American SEAL. But Pippa has her own set of lethal skills, and if Fraser gets in the way, she’ll leave him on the side of the road. Still, maybe he’s not a terrible side-kick. He is handsome, and he makes her laugh…

No, no, bad Pippa! She has no room for a man—an American—in her life. And Fraser hasn’t ever considered slowing down. Even if Pippa has him wondering if there is a different future ahead.

But there’s more to the story than a Romeo-and-Juliet runaway romance. Princess Imani has seen a murder, and the perpetrator isn’t going to let her get away. Will Fraser and Pippa find the couple first?

And if they do, can they work together to keep them safe?

It’ll be tough if their hearts get in the way…

My Thoughts:

I would have to say Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors, so I was excited to read this newest series. I found the book to be well written and a quick read. I loved watching Fraser and Pippa interact. The storyline about Creed was also nice and I look forward to getting more of his story, as well as the rest of the Marshall family members. I did figure out who was the "bad guy", but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book. There are a lot of characters from Susan May Warren's previous books, but I think you could read this book without having first read the books that introduce all those other people. There are also characters and locations from some of Rachel Hauck's books as well which was a fun surprise. There was a nice biblical faith thread and the characters grew. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

"The Revelation of Israel" by Rachel Rebecca Baxter

(I have not read this book)

About the Book

Book: The Revelation of Israel

Author: Rachel Rebecca Baxter

Genre: Christian Non-Fiction

Release date: January, 2022

In the Revelation of Israel, God’s plan to regather His people from all 12 Tribes of Israel is unveiled.  He promises to, again, raise up the Josephs, so that His lost children from the 10 Tribes of the Northern Kingdom of Israel may know who they are, be provided for, and protected through the Tribulation, which is nearly upon us.

 Author Interview

1. Do you have a special writing area?
I did not set out to be an author, necessarily. My professional career
is engineering and process improvement. I wrote my first book, Lifted
Up, My Whole Hearted Testimony, as a part of my own growth
process. I felt like the Lord had taken me through a profound life-
change and I wanted to share with others the hope that I had found in
inner-healing. The Revelation of Israel, my second book, was a writing
that HAD to come forth or I think I would have just exploded! Again,
there was this thing inside my gut that the Lord shaped and molded
until it needed to come forth… I guess a lot like a birthing process. As
a mom of 4, I know the pain that is required to do that and also the
deep reward. So I would say that my “special area” is my own life
experience and the journey that the Lord has taken me on. I share
from the areas where I have pursued a deep revelation. These
pursuits have taken years, not months.
2. How do you balance writing time with the demands of life/family?
The first draft of The Revelation of Israel was written in two weeks
over Christmas break 2021. It literally poured out of me.
Surprisingly, my husband and kids hardly noticed. I would write when
the Lord seemed to create opportunities for me. I did it from a place
of rest in Him which meant that I was not striving to do it. I did not
have a timeline I had to meet. Honestly, it was the easiest thing.
Most pages wrote themselves through the help of Holy Spirit.
What was a bit harder was the revision & editing process and then the
publishing time commitments that came after the fact. It was harder
only because those are not my favorite things to do!
I have always been a strong multi-tasker. I am able to bounce
between things pretty easily. This comes in handy when trying to
balance work and parenting, while also chasing after the things of God.
3. What kind of research do you do?
So much of The Revelation of Israel comes directly from Scripture. To
support what the Word is saying, and to leverage the understanding
that others carry, I enjoy leveraging the internet to search specific
topics. I grew up using the Dewey-decimal system. The power of
information we now have at our fingertips is staggering. Why not use
it.
On my journey with this material, I also had the opportunity to
interact with other researchers and authors who had insight that I did
not have which was very helpful.
Lastly, I would say that we are fortunate to be living at a time where
we are seeing the pages of Revelation unfolding in our world and
testified to in our daily headlines. It’s incredible the way that current
events substantiate Bible prophecy.
4. How long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
The Lord began opening up specific scriptures to me over a period of
years. I was drawn to the Old Testament to the point where my best
friend told me I needed more Jesus! I couldn’t get enough of Isaiah,
Daniel and Ezekiel for a time. The Lord began speaking to me through
His still small voice prophetically. It was like a puzzle that He was
asking me to solve where He would give me a few pieces at a time and
I really had no idea what the final picture was going to be until the end
of 2021 when I knew the book needed to be written. I had the picture
and I knew that He would give me the words!

5. Do you have any writing quirks?
This may not be a good thing, but my friends tell me that I write like I
speak. And, because most of us speak like we think, formulating a
clear, concise sentence paragraph-by-paragraph can be difficult. My
thoughts tend to come to me about a dozen at a time. Obviously, my
heart is that the reader would be able to follow what I am saying and
be able to formulate their own clear picture of what I am sharing. I
apologize for word-spraying if I’ve subjected you to that!

About the Author

Rachel Baxter has a professional background in engineering, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering, and an MBA.  Rachel currently works in the field of business process consulting with over 20 years of experience.

Rachel grew up in the Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married.  She was born again and spirit-filled in 2014 when she received inner healing through a ministry called One Whole Heart in Omaha, Nebraska.  She now serves as an elder and volunteer for this ministry.  Rachel also serves her local church in various capacities.

Rachel is married to Garrick, and they have 4 children from elementary to high school age.  Rachel led a Christian school and homeschool coop called Valor for 5 years.  This was a missional spirit-led school where every day began with worship, and the children were taught to hear and follow the voice of the Lord, as Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and follow me!” Rachel continues to have a heart for Kingdom youth education.

When she was baptized in the Holy Spirit, Rachel began to have dreams and visions from the Lord.  He began to speak with her about the days that are ahead, the time before   Jesus returns, so that she could write them down and release the prophetic words for those who were willing to hear.  Rachel has received several angelic visitations.  (A primary purpose of an angel is to be a messenger.) An angel of the Lord came to Rachel to tell her that she was, “Called to see that which was coming upon the Earth and to tell others what is coming.”  This book is an act of obedience to that call.

More from Rachel

It’s been a year since I co-labored with the Lord to write this work.  I have used it myself on a weekly basis as a reference.  There is so much insight here that is beyond me.  The Lord, in His glorious wisdom, is able to make the complicated and mysterious – clear and beautiful when He takes His truth and allows us to absorb it into our bones.  This is the essence of a revelation!  The Revelation of Israel is God’s story of His plans written before time began.  It starts with a people under Father Abraham who were meant to know their God.  Those people fell short in every way and were scattered across the earth.  We know that Jesus came to redeem God’s people to Himself through His atoning sacrifice – but the story of God does not end there.  God’s story has continued the last 2,000 years and is about to be fulfilled in the last seven years of tribulation on the earth that culminates with the return of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah at the last trump!

"A Not So Persistent Suitor" by Sandra Merville Hart

 About the Book

Book: A Not So Persistent Suitor

Author: Sandra Merville Hart

Genre: Christian historical romance

Release date: February 14, 2023

He’s fighting for his career…She’s bent on achieving her own goals…Will their love survive a second chance at happily ever after?

Cora Welch dreams of a future teaching kindergarten, which is in its infancy, and marriage to Ben Findlay, her beau and her twin brother’s best friend. But she returns to college from summer break to learn of Ben’s unwise choices in pursuit of his career—choices that destroy her trust in the man she thought she knew and loved.

Ben is working hard toward his dream to become the best reporter in the city. He’s no stranger to fighting for a goal against all odds, ever since he was orphaned at age thirteen. Even though Cora has captured his heart, he makes the mistake of escorting the boss’s daughter to a fancy banquet to further his career—with far-reaching repercussions. Now he’s hurt Cora and botched his career goals.

Winning Cora’s trust again proves harder than Ben expects, especially as they both face struggles of their own. When events spiral out of their control, catapulting them into hardship and even danger, only God can restore their dreams—though the outcome may look far different than either of them planned.

 My Thoughts

I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a book and was confused about who was who even though it was acting like I should know who everyone was already. It wasn't until I was about 1/6 of the way into the book before I finally clicked who everyone was. It is important to read the first book in the series first so you know who everyone is. I really liked the historical facts and events that were included in the book. The biblical faith thread was also very nice. The book didn't flow very well for me but that is because of my own personal reading preferences.

More from Sandra

I have wanted to write a story set in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the 1880s for several years. It seems to me that it was on my heart to write while I was still working as a Programmer Analyst and writing was but a dream.

Twins Cora and John had been living on their family’s farm before moving to Cincinnati to attend college. John went rogue on me (he does that in Book 3 too ðŸ˜Š) and got a job at a newspaper working with Ben, and decided not to go to college. Meanwhile, Ben begins to court Cora.

When our story begins, Cora is in her second and final year at the Cincinnati Kindergarten Training School. Kindergarten is still in its infancy in 1883, when our story begins. In fact, the demand for kindergartens grew in the 1870s. There were about four hundred kindergartens by 1880, and the need to train teachers for them was a natural part of that growth.

A training school in Cincinnati was organized in March of 1880. At first, kindergarten students (aged four – six) learned the 3 R’s –reading, writing, and arithmetic. Before long, principals in higher grades complained that kindergartners also needed a basic knowledge of music, drawing, and manual training.

This led to greater training for kindergartener teachers, who learned teaching tools that included games, songs, and handwork.

I imagine that incorporating games, songs, and activities engaged the children’s interest in a new and fun way for them.

Part of my research included The Songs and Music of Friedrich Froebel’s Mother Play by Fro. Bel. Friedrich. Early training schools used Friedrich Froebel’s writing extensively in their training so I mentioned his Mother Play book within the story.

Though demand for kindergartens was growing, most schools didn’t address the needs of these four to six-year-old children by providing a kindergarten class. Cora has to fight for a local school to start a new class to open the fall after she graduates.

Another fun thing about this novel is the places I’ve included that the modern reader familiar with Cincinnati will recognize:

Fountain Square, the Suspension Bridge, St. Peter’s Cathedral, and the Zoological Gardens to name a few.

Follow characters you’ve grown to love in A Not So Convenient Marriage, Book 1 in the “Second Chances” series into A Not So Persistent Suitor, Book 2!

"The Last Chance Cowboy" by Jody Hedlund

About the Book

With danger drawing ever closer, their only hope of saving their futures lies in each other.

As a midwife, Catherine Remington is successful in bringing new life into the world, but she’s failed one too many times in finding true love. When she’s accused of a murder she didn’t commit, she’s forced to flee to Colorado to honor a patient’s dying wish by delivering a newborn infant to his father.

The repentant prodigal Dylan McQuaid is finally back in Fairplay. As sheriff, he’s doing his best to prove to the town he’s a changed man and worthy of their trust. When a woman shows up with an infant son he didn’t know he had, Dylan is left with only complicated choices on what to do next.

Having grown attached to Dylan’s son, Catherine doesn’t want to part ways with the infant, but what she doesn’t bargain for is how easily she’ll fall for the charming sheriff, or how quickly the past will catch up with her and put their love and lives in danger.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed reading this book and finally seeing Dylan turn his life around and follow God with his life. It was fun to see all the other characters from the rest of the series. I found the book to be well written and easy to read. I liked the biblical faith thread and the growth the characters experienced. I am sad that the series is over and we won't get to spend more time with the McQuaid family. I look forward to reading more books by Jody Hedlund.
