Book Review, Blog Tour, and Giveaway: "Quest for Leviathan" by Amanda Tero

Are sea monsters a real thing? What about fire-breathing dragons? According to the Bible, there is a fire-breathing sea creature who really existed: the leviathan. Amanda Tero brings this dragon to life in her newest short story, "Quest for Leviathan." Join Anath and his crew of ninety-nine rowers as they face the waves of the Mediterranean Sea and the power of Leviathan.

About the Story
Leviathan took the life of his father.

Anath has spent three years preparing for the voyage that will end the threat of Leviathan. Yet as the Valor launches into the depths of the Mediterranean, an inward quest also begins, taking Anath to depths he is not willing to face.

My Thoughts
"Quest for Leviathan" is a short story, but it doesn't feel like one as it is well developed. I really enjoyed how Amanda Tero incorporated Biblical truths into the story and dialog. The story is set in the era of Job, so not much is known about that time of history, but the setting and characters felt believable as being from that time period. The hand drawn illustrations that appear periodically through the book help enhance the story. (Although the one of the up raised hands was a little deformed to me). There was a good character growth arc and I found them to be relatable.

Giveaway!

Author Interview

Do you set a plot or prefer going wherever an idea takes you?
I do a little bit of both. When I get an idea, I usually have a general
idea of where the plot will go, but I also like to explore the options
as I write. Sometimes, a good surprise is awaiting me!

What, according to you, is the hardest thing about writing?
Promotion, hands down. Since I’m independently published, all of
the promo is done by me. I’d just rather write and design covers than
sell the thing. ;)

What would you say is the easiest aspect of writing?
That kind of changes, depending on the story. :) Usually, writing down
the first draft is pretty easy, but then I have to work at it to fill in gaps and
strengthen the story—which is definitely not always easy. ;)

Do you pen down revelations and ideas as you get them, right then
and there?
Usually, yes. Otherwise, I would forget so much!!

Do you need to be in a specific place or room to write, or you can
just sit in the middle of a café full of people and write?
It works best if I can be somewhere quiet. Which is funny, because I was
raised in a family with twelve kids.

When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?
I think it was a gradual thing. I’ve loved writing since I was at least eight
years old. I never had huge dreams to become published—that just kind
of happened all in God’s timing.

Anything else you'd like to share?
No matter where you are in life, and what calling God has placed on
your life, keep your focus upward and your heart sensitive to His leading!
He’ll never lead you astray!
