The Bear family is getting ready for the Fourth of July parade and learn a little about the birth of our country. It was a very simplified version of our war for independence, but as this book is geared for young kids, I think it was enough. You could always expound on the birth of our country if you wanted to. I liked that the Bear family gave thanks to God for being able to live in a country that is free. I did find it a bit odd that they quoted Deuteronomy 26:9 ("He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey"), which is about the Israelites entering Canaan, not about the USA. Another thing that I really liked about the book was the fact that Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear won 2nd place in the parade contest and were happy and excited about it. It was nice to show that you don't have to win 1st place to be happy. There are activities and questions about the book on the inside of the back cover.
